Woodstock Hospital wanted its exterior environment to communicate that patients, families and visitors from different backgrounds were welcome and represented. The banner initiative was developed with input from the hospital’s Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee, Patient & Family Advisory Council and Board of Trust.
I researched Woodstock and Oxford County census data to identify the 14 most common mother tongues in the region and coordinated the copy through a third-party translator.
I then created two modular illustration systems combining abstract human forms with line-art references to the region’s agricultural and manufacturing heritage. The final series uses language, illustration and repetition to extend an inclusive welcome throughout the hospital’s exterior environment.
